The active substance of Claritin is loratadine. Claritin is produced as tablets and syrup. This drug begins its action half an hour after the intake and its maximum activity is observed after 10 hours.
Pregnant women can take Claritin, if they have the following indications: allergic skin diseases, an allergy to pollen, edema of the Quincke, reaction to insect bites, allergic reaction to food products, seasonal rhinitis, itching of various forms, allergic conjunctivitis.
Claritin may be used in the second trimester of pregnancy, if the expected use to the mother is higher than possible risks to the future child. This drug is taken once a day at a dosage of 10 mg (1 tablet or 2 teaspoons of syrup). It should be taken with pure non-carbonated water. The drug intake doesn’t depend on food intakes. If the patient’s state isn’t better in 3 days of using the drug, its taking should be stopped because of its ineffectiveness.
During the third trimester of pregnancy, Claritin may be used only according to the indications, as its harmful effect on the fetus hasn’t been set up. Loratadine does not affect the process of giving birth, so it can be taken in the late pregnancy.
